The Red Dead Redemption Remaster – What we know…

It’s no secret that the Red Dead franchise is close to many player’s hearts around the globe. It’s renown for its rich storytelling and content-packed worlds that provide many hours of enjoyment, even to those who are not really interested in the Western genre.

The massive success of RDR2 left people wondering: what comes next? Who would be the main character? Would it be set before or after either Redemption game?

Now we may have an answer, in the form of a remaster.

South Korean game reviews have re-rated Red Dead Redemption 1, although it seems to be separate from the original RDR1 console versions. Key information such as the development studio behind the game and what platforms it will be available on still remain a mystery, if there is anything at all.

There have been rumours for a while now stating that Rockstar is aware of the demand for a remaster for RDR1 and also rumours that state that there was a remaster in the works, but it supposedly got shelved after the GTA Trilogy remasters got released. However, there is also some evidence to point out that this remaster could have been completed and is on the way to be revealed the general public in the coming years, or even months. We can see specific terminology referencing ‘body damage’, which contextually has only been used to rate 3 games. Doom, Doom Eternal and Red Dead Redemption 2. Whilst being too far fetched to confirm anything, there are a few more little details that are worth noting. The fact that it was a re-rating of RDR1 is significant, as the exact same thing happened to the GTA Trilogy which had an official announcement of a remaster for the games a week later. Rockstar also removed RDR1 from PS Now at the end of 2022, perhaps to make room for a new remaster or port? Another interesting development from Rockstar was delaying a Red Dead Online event, which again whilst it is grasping at straws, could hint that they are making room for an announcement. Leakers also think that while the remaster was shelved, work on the project was at some point resumed last year. As mentioned earlier, it looks like the review was for a game separate from the original console versions. This could mean that instead of a simple next-gen update, the game would be standalone, similar to the GTA next-gen release.

So, while everything seems a bit far fetched at the moment, do you think that a RDR1 remaster is on the way? Is the evidence presented to us enough for fans to assume it’s just around the corner?
